ROKUS.NET

This blog is no longer updated.

Since I own the domain name for a couple more years, and the hosting was paid-in-advance, it's still here. But I've moved on to Hawaii, and no longer have the need to publish all the sorts of neat stuff that made up the contents of this website.

If you've linked to me, you are invited to unlink, as your readers will no longer be presented with new content. Thanks, Steve

The ROKUS.net Outlook Classification plugin

If you're looking for a mail plugin that will tag each outgoing email, look no further.

Features:

· Intercepts each outgoing message and requests a classification tag.
· Inserts a prefix on the subject line, a header and a footer in the message body.
· Messages are fully customizable for your environment via XML file included.
· See screenshots for more!

Limitations:

· Only works on plain-text email, RTF and HTML mail limitations demonstrated below.

Licensing:

· This software is provided 'as-is', without any expressed or implied warranty.
· In no event will the author be held liable for any damages arising from the use of this software.

Installation and Setup:

· Download and run the installation file. This program is no longer available for public download.
(Release date currently set for 01 Oct 2005.)
· Read the "readme.txt" file.
· Configure the "options.xml" file.
· Start Outlook and send mail.

Screenshots:

Figure 1. Create an email message as normal.

Figure 2. If the default classification is appropriate, click "OK" to send your message.

Figure 3. Select an alternate classification, if you'd like.
Click on "Make this the default classification" to make the selected classification default.

Figure 4. The message is sent, modifications to the message marked in red.

Figure 5. The "options.xml" file can be configured with any subject prefix, header and footer required.
See below for documentation.

Figure 6. A Rich Text or HTML mail is created (these color/fonts/size combinations are exaggerated).

Figure 7. As above, the modifications to the message are made, but the text formatting is lost.
This is a known issue. There's no need to remind me.

Options.xml customization

· Use Notepad to open the "options.xml" file in the installation directory.
· In the <Options> grouping, the <Option> items contain the following configurable items:
  1. name - the descriptive name shown in the dropdown list.
  2. Subject - the text included at the beginning of the subject line.
  3. BodyHeader - the text included at the beginning of the message.
  4. BodyFooter - the text included at the end of the message.
· A default configuration file is included, with "FOUO", "Unclassified" and "Contract Sensitive" email caveats.
· If you wish to insert a "new line" character in the BodyHeader/BodyFooter, use "\n" (minus the quotes) as demonstrated in the existing configuration file.
· If you wish to change the "options.xml" file, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you make a copy first.
